Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)

Early, aggressive treatment for CRPS to prevent long-term disability.

Under care of Dr. Avan Suryawanshi

Overview

CRPS is a chronic pain condition — usually in an arm or leg after an injury or surgery — where pain is out of proportion to the initial event, often with skin colour changes, swelling and temperature differences.

Early diagnosis and treatment are critical. Dr. Avan Suryawanshi uses sympathetic nerve blocks, physiotherapy and neuromodulation to prevent CRPS from becoming disabling.

How we treat it

  • Stellate ganglion block for upper limb CRPS
  • Lumbar sympathetic block for lower limb CRPS
  • Aggressive physiotherapy and desensitisation
  • Spinal cord stimulation for refractory cases
  • Multidisciplinary rehabilitation

Frequently asked questions

Why does CRPS need urgent treatment?+

CRPS caught in the first 6 months responds much better to treatment. Delayed treatment allows the nervous system to become sensitised and harder to reverse.
