Hormonal Therapy

Endocrine treatment for hormone-driven cancers of the breast, prostate and endometrium.

Under care of Dr. Ravi Jaiswal

Overview

Many cancers grow in response to natural hormones — oestrogen in breast cancer, androgens in prostate cancer. Hormonal (endocrine) therapy blocks these signals and can control disease for years with far fewer side effects than chemotherapy.

Dr. Ravi Jaiswal prescribes and monitors tamoxifen, aromatase inhibitors, LHRH analogues and newer anti-androgens, and manages side effects like bone loss and hot flushes proactively.

How we treat it

  • Tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors for breast cancer
  • LHRH agonists / antagonists (goserelin, degarelix)
  • Novel anti-androgens for prostate cancer
  • Bone-density monitoring and protection
  • Menopausal symptom management

Frequently asked questions

How long do I need to take hormonal therapy?+

For breast cancer, typically 5–10 years. For prostate cancer, duration depends on stage — from a few months to lifelong.

Is hormonal therapy the same as HRT?+

No — it is the opposite. HRT gives hormones; cancer hormonal therapy blocks or lowers them to starve the cancer.
